Man rescued from Koke‘e Wednesday

Kaua‘i Fire Department received a report of a 63-year-old male with an ankle injury on Kukui Trail in Koke‘e just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

A crew with the Hanapepe Fire Department, Rescue 3, and Air 1 responded. First responders located the hiker one mile into the trail.

Due to the conditions of the trail and safety concerns, the hiker was loaded into a stokes litter and airlifted via Air 1 to a landing zone near the top of Kukui Trail.

Responding medics with American Medical Response provided support and continued efforts on the hiker while in transport to Wilcox Hospital.

The scene was cleared at approximately 1:15 p.m.
