Mana Time Trial bicycle race set for Feb. 17

KEKAHA — The Mana Time Trial bicycle road race is set for Feb. 17 at 8 a.m.

In the time trial, bicyclists are sent out on the course in one-minute intervals. The course starts and finishes at MacArthur Park in Kekaha, and the course is 10.8 miles long.

There will be divisions for men, women, youth, tandem teams and hand-cycles.

Registration forms are available online at bit.ly/2DmuR3v. Either bring forms on-site the day of the race or mail forms in advance to Bicycle Racing Kauai, P.O. Box 455, Kalaheo, HI 96741.

Registration fee is $20. Make checks payable to Bicycle Racing Kauai.

On-site registration the morning of the race will be 7 to 7:30 a.m. A mandatory riders meeting prior to the race is at 7:45 a.m.

The Mana Time Trial is part of the Waimea Town Celebration.

The race will run again during Memorial Day weekend in May as part of the Kauai Omnium, which includes the annual Pedal to the Meadow bicycle hill climb race in Kokee.

Traffic advisory: Those driving to the Pacific Missile Range Facility, the Kekaha Landfill and Polihale State Park on Feb. 17 are advised there will be a bicycle race between MacArthur Beach Park and the fork in the road at Mana (last PMRF gate). More pedestrians and cyclists than usual will be at the park and on the open road from about 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Please proceed with aloha and caution. Obey Hawaii’s three-foot safe passing law. Watch for signs, road marshals and a KPD officer alerting motorists.
