HONOLULU – Las Vegas Raiders Quarterback Marcus Mariota and his Motiv8 Foundation are auctioning off his game-worn cleats from the week 13 game against the New York Jets as part of the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats 2020 campaign. The auction ends on Feb. 12, 2021, and all proceeds will benefit Hawaii Foodbank. Mariota will match the final donation amount to double the impact of the gift.
“Marcus Mariota is a true role model and torchbearer for Hawaii’s communities, and his leadership extends far beyond his performance on the field,” said Danny Schlag, Director of Marketing and Communications at Hawaii Foodbank. “We are incredibly grateful to Marcus for including Hawaii Foodbank in this year’s My Cause My Cleats campaign, and we are humbled by his longtime commitment to nourishing his home in so many ways.”
Mariota brought attention to the one in four keiki in Hawaii who are currently struggling with hunger by wearing the cleats during the December 6 game. By auctioning off the cleats, Mariota and the Motiv8 Foundation hope to make an even bigger impact on the Foodbank’s mission to provide for all Hawaii families in need.
“I am very pleased to partner with Hawaii Foodbank this year with My Cause My Cleats game shoes,” said Marcus Mariota, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback and founder of the Motiv8 Foundation, “The Foodbank is meeting the needs of families that have been hit hard by this pandemic. Many of our local families are suffering during these tough times and are worried about their next meal. The Foodbank is doing a great job to help these families and meet their needs, and that is why they have my support.”
One in six Hawaii residents currently struggles with hunger, including nearly 90,000 keiki and a growing number of kupuna residents. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Hawaii Foodbank has distributed food for more than 19 million meals.
“Marcus will personally match the amount of the winning bidder to double the donation to the Foodbank,” said Ed Nishioka, Director of the Motiv8 Foundation, “Marcus saw how hard things have been on some families here, and that is when he decided he wanted to work to raise money through the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats program and give attention to Hawaii Foodbank.”
Join the Motiv8 Foundation and Hawaii Foodbank to raise as much money as possible to help feed Hawaii’s families by bidding on Marcus Mariota’s customized Nike cleats that were part of the NFL’s My Cause My Cleats campaign. Mariota will match the winning bid to double the donation, with all proceed benefiting Hawaii Foodbank. The auction ends on Feb. 12, 2021.
Each season the NFL designates one week for players to customize their cleats to raise money for a cause. During week 13 of the 2020 season, Mariota wore these customized Nike Cleats to benefit the Hawaii Foodbank. Marcus recognized that during this pandemic, the Hawaii Foodbank is an organization that is playing a bigger role in the community due to the demand put on families during this very difficult time.
The My Cleats My Cause auction ends at 2:02 p.m. on February 12, 2021, and is hosted on the Motiv8 Foundation website at www.Motiv8Foundation.com. The Nike cleats come in the original box along with a certificate of authenticity and documentation of the NFL game where the cleats were worn. The green and yellow floral custom design features Hawaii Foodbank’s logo and was created by Oregon Sports Artist Justin Tigner.
