LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources and other partner programs will open the final weekend of the Third Annual Kaua‘i OceanFest starting Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery in the Kukui Grove Center with a theme of “From Mauka to Makai with DLNR and Friends.”
Heather Yliltalo-Ward, PhD, an aquatic biologist with the state’s DLNR will be speaking on “He‘e (octopus) in Hawai‘i and Beyond” during the Friday afternoon presentation that have been well-attended on previous presentations.
Saturday activities open from 1 to 3 p.m. with ‘Ohana Activities that are included in fun and informative activity stations located throughout the shopping center near the Kaua‘i Ocean Discovery center.
“This is a chance to learn about marine mammal sounds, make ink stamp projects, create your own ‘Ohi‘a Lehua Tree of Life postcard, make origami yellow tang, origami whales, and other fun activities,” said Jean Souza, the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary programs specialist.
All activities are free and open to the public at the event presented by the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources, DLNR, ROD Outreach at Kaua‘i Invasive Species Committee, NOAA Fisheries, and the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary.
