Mental-health walk is virtual, Saturday

HONOLULU — Every year, the National Alliance on Mental Illness brings together hundreds of thousands of mental-health supporters and advocates from across the country to raise mental-health awareness and funds through NAMIWalks events.

This year, due to the ongoing effects of COVID-19, the NAMIWalks Your Way: A United Day of Hope is Saturday, Oct. 9.

“We have all been impacted in some way” by the pandemic, said NAMIWalks Hawai‘i Manager Anisa Wiseman. “Even as we are isolated geographically, we can be united in our common goal of mental health for all and ensure no one in our community feels alone.”

All are invited to join NAMIWalks by registering at namihawaii.org/walk and joining or creating a team.

Celebrate mental-health awareness on Saturday by picking an activity of choice, such as jumping rope, baking a cake, practicing yoga or walking with friends and family in the neighborhood — all while taking precautions to stay safe.

There is no registration fee. Fundraising is encouraged. All funds raised support NAMI Hawai‘i programs and services, which are offered free of charge.
