Nahe gets Player of Year nod; Moises honored

LIHU‘E — Waimea Girls Volleyball coach Brandi Hori Moises is named Coach of the Year, and Kaua‘i High School senior hitter Kaleonahe “Nahe” Bukoski is the Player of the Year, the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation announced last week.

The pair lead the KIF Girls Volleyball All Stars that saw the Island School Voyagers place two players, and Kaua‘i High School’s Bukoski getting dual honors. KIF champ Waimea High School placed four on the all-star list.

Bukoski, in addition to being named Player of the Year, got the nod for one of the outside hitter positions, joined by Voyager Brooklyn Valentino and Waimea’s Kalea Huihui-Caberto. Waimea’s Halia Moriguchi, whose appearance on the floor generated cheers of “Boom!” and “Bam!” was announced to one of two middle blockers on the team, the second spot filled by Island School’s Samantha Brown.

Waimea’s Braeanna Moises, whose bag of setter tricks kept opponents off-balance en route to the team’s perfect record, claimed the setter position. Moises was joined by Menehune libero Malu Alquiza-Kenney, whose back-row performance, including hustling digs and saves, generated points for Waimea in its wins over opponents.
