Nash Burkart takes 2 at Garden Island Bogey Board Contest

POIPU — Nash Burkart finished the Garden Island Bogey Board Contest by winning the Open Pro and Open Men divisions when the finals wrapped up on Sunday at the Prince Kuhio break.

Nash was very consistent in his riding, piling up 12.10 points in the Open Pro final and 12.83 points in the Open Men final.

On the wahine side, AIKA UI, competing in two division races with Sarai Akiona and Kaipo Poi Koa, had the biggest score in the finals at 14.36 points to win the division. Earlier in the meet, AI finished with 7.17 points in the Open Women division.

Akiona pointed 14.10 points in the semifinals to take her heat. She repeated in the final but settled for second place with her 14.10 point performance.

Presented by Kaikeha, a nonprofit group founded by watermen Chris Burkhart and Jeff Hubbard, the 7th annual Garden Island Boogie Board Classic got support from numerous community groups as well as Kamehameha Schools-Kaiaulu.

The mission of Kaikeha is focused on engaging the youth of Hawaii in water sports activities to foster a lifelong connection with the ocean by nurturing a competitive athletic spirit.

Girls Final: AIKA UI (14.36 points), Sarai Akiona (14.10 points), Keani Ani Hunt (9.90 points) Kaiwi “Fishi” Wong (9.60 points), Kaipo “Poi” Koa (8.10 points), Laola Seraphin (7.14 points).
