Net Patrol takes on Moloa‘a coastline

MOLOA‘A — The next five Wednesday Net Patrols of the Kaua‘i Surfrider group tackle some tough terrain along the Moloa‘a coastline.

Organizers said those interested should meet at 3:30 p.m. at the Moloa‘a Sunrise Fruit Stand along Kuhio Highway on July 20 and 27 and Aug. 3, 10 and 17.

Volunteers will hike around 15 minutes down a fishing access trail to a rocky coastline past the end of Ko‘olau Road, and will be loading marine debris into super sacks.

“This cleanup can be intense, requires good balance, rocky hopping and climbing skills,” plus “agility, able to twist and turn, bend body awkwardly. Toed shoes are required,” according to a Net Patrol press release.

The cleanups usually end around 6:30 p.m.

Participants should bring water. Burlap bags, gloves and buckets are provided.
