No COVID cases at HCCC — for now

Hawaii Community Correctional Center is free of active COVID-19 cases for now, according to a statement Tuesday by the state Department of Public Safety.

HCCC received two negative inmate test results and said two inmates have recovered, leaving no active cases in the Hilo jail.

Elsewhere, Kauai Community Correctional Center reported 125 inmate test results, of which, 31 were positive and 94 were negative. There also was one positive KCCC staff test result reported.

KCCC has enacted its pandemic protocol to suspend all inmate movement in and out of the facility.

Maui Community Correctional Center reported four positive staff test results, the Women’s Community Correctional Center reported two positive staff results, and Oahu Community Correctional Center reported two positive staff test results.

OCCC also reported 40 inmate test results, of which, seven were positive and 33 were negative.

“The Hawaii Department of Health is conducting contact tracing and investigation, but it is safe to say that the preliminary cause appears to be from the rapid community spread across our state,” said Tommy Johnson, deputy director for corrections.
