NAWILIWILI — Coming off a busy weekend celebrating the start of summer, the Nawiliwili Yacht Club announced that its annual Father’s Day Keiki Fishing Tournament will be held on June 15.
Fishing headquarters for this year’s contest will be a small tent set up on the grassy lawn fronting Dock No. 1, adjacent to USCG Station Kauai. Registration for the contest starts at 9 a.m., with fishing on a catch-and-release basis taking place from 10 a.m. to noon.
There is a $5 entry fee per keiki (ages 3 to 13 years old) fisher that includes a hot dog (a past NYC member labeled them “yacht dawgs”) and a cold soft drink. Keiki fishers are encouraged to bring along an adult helper.
For non-registered fishers and their families, hot dogs and drinks will be available for purchase.
A weigh station will be set up at the headquarters tent shortly after the 10 a.m. fishing start time.
Families are asked to bring a bucket for holding the catch, a pole and bait, as no gear will be available at the contest.
A highly creative panel of judges will determine the prize winners, who will be announced following the fishing period. The NYC promises a lot of prizes that community sponsors have generously provided.
This annual outing to the Nawiliwili Small Boat Harbor is a community event presented by the Nawiliwili Yacht Club, which hosts the weekly Thursday afternoon Shoreline Series yacht races in Nawiliwili Harbor.
