Richard Poncio Bayot

Richard Poncio Bayot, of Kekaha, passed away on May 15, 2025, at Straub Benioff Hospital on Oahu at the age of 65. He was born on Nov. 22, 1959, in Waimea. He was a retired electronic technician at Pacific Missile Range Facility.

He was preceded in death by his father Poncio Bayot, brother Eugene Keo Bayot, paternal grandparents Feliciano and Eugenia Bayot and maternal grandparents Vidal and Takeyo Badua.

He is survived by his wife Elsie Malabe Bayot, mother Edna Badua Bayot, sister Edee Nichols (Kim), sons Darrick Bayot (Sheryl), Rilen Bayot (Shy), stepsons Norman T. Vea Jr. (Macey Parongao), Aaron Kai Vea (Christine), stepdaughter Nikki Corona (Cy), grandchildren Elijah and Jaelah Bayot, Duke and Riley Bayot, Kaimalie and Nanea Parongao Vea, Asher Vea, Mateo and Dax Corona, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 8640 Kiowea Road in Kekaha. Visitation with the family from 8:30 to 10 a.m., followed by the celebration of life. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Florentina Moreno

Florentina Moreno, of Kekaha, passed away in Hanapepe on March 21, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born on March 17, 1936, in Kekaha. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 ½ years, Maxie Moreno, father and stepmom Juan and Elena Domingo, mother and stepdad Julian and Enicia Garcia, sister Cristabel Garma, brother and wife Dickie and Angie Dela Cruz, brother Benjamin Domingo Sr., great-granddaughter Zaylyn Rose Aranio, grandson-in-law Peyton Siliado Jr., nephew Ray Allen Dela Cruz, sister-in-law Cheryl Garma, father-in-law Tomas Moreno, mother-in-law Shandra Hernandez, in-laws Raymond and Linda Moreno and Daniel and Sefa Dela Torre.

She is survived by her daughters Myra (Felix) Torres of Hanapepe, Gina (Benjie) Aranio of Omao, sons Thomas (Lisa) Moreno of Kekaha, Maxie (Dolly) Moreno of Kapaa, 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, brothers Francisco Domingo of Oahu, Tony (Prima) Domingo of Waimea, brother-in-law Boni Garma, sister Juanita Riel of Oahu, sisters-in-law Gloria Domingo of Puhi, Lourdes Domingo of Kekaha, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawai. Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by service/Mass at 10:30 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Mariah Marie Camat-Magno

Mariah Marie Camat-Magno, 34, of Lihue, passed away on March 30, 2025, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 14, 1991, in Kauai, Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandpa Lennox “Rico” Camat Sr. and fiancé Kaipo Kali.

She is survived by her significant other Kaplan Lum, son Ali‘iloa Camat-Kali of Lihue, daughters Riahte‘a Camat-Kali of Lihue, ‘Ale‘a Camat-Kali of Lihue, Tehina‘vai Camat-Kali of Lihue, and Moan‘i Lum of Lihue, mother Raenette (Jessie Jacinto) Camat of Hanamaulu, father Jose Magno of Nashville, Tennessee, brother Felix (Kelcey Aledo) Macadangdang Jr. of Hanamaulu, sisters Maiah (Robert Torres) Magno of Kapaa, Macie (Benny Galiza) Macadangdang of Puhi, Shanice Magno of San Diego, California, and Brandee (Russell) Matsuyama of Eleele, maternal grandma Afton Camat, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Wailua Houselots Park starting at 10:30 a.m. The scattering of ashes will take place at a later date. The family requests aloha attire and welcomes flowers.

Patrocinia ‘Aunty Pat’ Schrader

Patrocinia “Aunty Pat” Schrader passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at her home in Wailua Homesteads, Kaua‘i, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on Nov. 4, 1946, in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and was raised in Waipahu, O‘ahu, and Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i.

She graduated from Kaua‘i High School in 1964. She was a proud homemaker and worked for several local companies over the years, including Lihu‘e Plantation, House of Addler, Garden Island Motors and Walmart.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, August K. Schrader, children Jonathan (Verlyn) Babila, Jason (Amy) Babila, Ka‘aukai (Samantha) Schrader, Kaulana (Liza) Schrader, Jessica (Mike) Babila, Kanaloa Schrader, Alapai Schrader, Debra (Jim) Kozina, and Evan (Genevieve) Schrader, 16 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary on Thursday, July 3, 2025. Viewing begins at 9:30 a.m., service at 10:30 a.m., and burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens at 12:30 p.m. Flowers welcome.

Emelia Cubay Sanchez

Emelia Cubay Sanchez, of Kapaa, passed away on June 18, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born on May 28, 1940, in Davao City, Philippines. She was a hotel keeper.

She was preceded in death by her husband Antonio Sanchez Sr.

She is survived by her sons Zim (Luz) Sanchez of the Philippines, Ver (Susana) Sanchez of the Philippines, Greg Sanchez of the Philippines, Tony (Carolina) Sanchez of the Philippines, daughters Marie Sanchez of the Philippines, Lourdes Corpuz of the Philippines, Necie (Resy) Pancha of the Philippines, Rhose Sanchez of the Philippines, Claire Sanchez of the Philippines, Bing (Cesar) Anino of the Philippines, Anna Sanchez of Kauai, Joe Sanchez of Kauai, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa. Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by Mass. The family requests casual attire and no flowers.

Yukie K. Murakami

Yukie K. Murakami, of Hanapepe, Kauai, passed away surrounded by loved ones on March 22, 2025, at the age of 101. Born on March 16, 1924, in Port Allen, Kauai, she was a founding member of both N.F. Kawakami Store, Ltd. and Big Save, Inc., serving in key leadership and financial roles throughout her life.

Yukie was known to be an excellent cook. She also enjoyed patchwork quilting, ikebana flower arranging, sewing, and making clothes. She and her late husband Tsuka spent many years traveling the world, visiting dozens of countries in their time together. Her generous hospitality and ability to treat everyone with grace were felt by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tsukasa Murakami, brothers Norito (Clorinda) Kawakami, Keiji (Edith) Kawakami, Toru (May) Kawakami, Norman Hashisaka and Daniel (Mitsuko) Kawakami.

She is survived by her daughters Aimee (Gerald) Ida, Judith Murakami (Ken Fukushima) both of Kauai, two granddaughters Kelsi Ida (Ryen Shimizu), Donica Ida (Riley Hoonan) both of Seattle, one great-grandson Ryder Shimizu of Seattle, younger sister Mabel Hashisaka, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended ohana.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, June 28, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hanapepe Hongwanji. Service and lunch to follow. Burial will begin at 1 p.m. at the Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery.
