Allen ‘Shige’ Michioka

Allen “Shige” Michioka, 93, of Lihu‘e, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Jan. 23, 2020. He was born in Kealia on Nov. 13, 1926, and retired as a postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service.

He was preceded in death by parents Yakichi and Tomeyo Michioka, son Cory Michioka, and grandson Ethan Okuhara.

He is survived by wife Hilda Michioka, son Blaine (Jeane) Michioka, daughters Cheryl (Stanley Okuhara) Michioka and Lauren Michioka, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center, with from 4 p.m. with services to follow at 5 p.m.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens &Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Manuel ‘Maning’ Balauro Sr.

Manuel “Maning” Balauro Sr. passed away at age 92 on Feb. 1, 2020, in the Philippines. He was born on June 13, 1927 in Abra, Philippines.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired as a licensed practical nurse and em ergency medical technician from Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital.

He is survived by wife Lydia Balauro, sons Arthur (Kim) Balauro of Waiahole, Manuel Jr. “Sonny” (Anna) Balauro of ‘Oma‘o and Terrence Balauro of North Carolina, daughters Corinne (Joe) Queja of Mililani, Melva (Richard) Arakaki of Koloa and Betty “Bay” Pearson of Mililani, 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 23, in Banqued, Abra, Philippines.

Marie Mahuiki Inouye

Marie Mahuiki Inouye passed away on Feb. 5, 2020, at her residence at the age of 87.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1933, in Ha‘ena, and was a food prep cook.

She was preceded in death by husband Toshiyuki F. Inouye, and parents Laurence and Racheal Mahuiki.

She is survived by sons Dickson (Sandra) Inouye of Kaua‘i, Miles (Naomi) Inouye of Oregon and Brian (Suzanne Quin) Inouye of Georgia, daughter Candace (James) Kashiwabara of Kaua‘i, eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, brother Samson Mahuiki Sr. of Ha‘ena, sister Ruth Luka Mahuiki of O‘ahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are Sunday, Feb. 9, at Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and funeral discourse at 11:30 a.m.

The family suggests casual attire, and welcomes flowers.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
