Dolores (Dee) Sarmento

Dolores (Dee) Sarmento, 90, of Lawai and Kalaheo, passed away on June 13, 2025, at home. She was born in Oakland, California, on Aug. 11, 1934, and worked as a Key Punch Operator for many years before becoming a Computer Librarian with Clorox Company in Oakland, California.

She was preceded in passing by her husband Alfred Correa Sarmento of Lawai, Kauai, parents Peter and Caroline Abila, son Thomas L. Miller (Rebecca Kane) of Riverbank, California, siblings John Abila, Mary “Mimi” Elizabeth Abila, Carol Ann (Turley), Patricia (Kulp), Peter Abila and Richard Abila.

Dolores is survived by her children John M. (KC Egan) Miller of Alameda, California, Alfred P. (Darline Rita) Sarmento of Kekaha, Kauai, Gregory S. (Jo Quinn) Sarmento of Custer, South Dakota, sister Barbara Cota of Pleasanton, California, nieces Linda Marie Landers of Gladstone, Missouri and Valerie Truce (Roger) of Reno, Nevada, and many others, grandchildren Regina M. Miller (Gary Clark) of Livermore, California, Fiona Miller of Los Angeles, California, Christina Miller and Ricky Miller of Riverbank, California, Dwight and Sandra Miller of Albarraque, Portugal, David Sarmento and Kelly Sarmento of San Lorenzo, California and many great-grandchildren.

The family asks for donations to The Alzheimer’s Association, Hawaii Chapter in lieu of flowers.

A celebration of life will be held at The Church at Koloa, AOG, on Tuesday, July 29, at 10 a.m. With internment to follow at The Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Eric Laamaikahiki Kealii Larsen

May 16, 1962 — June 19, 2025

Our beloved son and brother, Eric Laamaikahiki Kealii Larsen, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at Wilcox Memorial Center (Kauai). He was born on May 16, 1962, at Kapiolani Hospital (Honolulu). He was 63 years old.

He was preceded in death by his father Walter W. Larsen Jr., paternal grandparents Walter W. Larsen Sr. and Margaret Forsythe Larsen, maternal grandparents Alfred A. Espinda Sr. and Thelma Kamala “Sookie” Ahuna Espinda.

He is survived by his mother Kaleinani “Nani” Larsen, brother Greg Kekoa (Coleen) Larsen, three nephews Justin Nainoa Larsen, Jacob Makana Larsen, Christian Kainalu Larsen, aunty Mrs. Momi (Emil) Wolfgramm of Maui, uncles Ron (Mary Pat) Larsen of Honolulu and Herb Espinda of Minnesota. All his ohana, cousins and good friends that he cherished too.

Eric graduated from Punahou School, Class of 1980. He attended the University of Washington and achieved his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He worked at the Lihue Library and received from The Friends of the Library the 2023 Excellence in service award, given in recognition of his exemplary service to the people of Hawaii.

He recently retired from the Lihue Library and was embarking on a new journey of Fun and Fitness and Community Service. He was a caring and loving son, a compassionate soul with a helpful spirit. He enjoyed telling funny stories and sharing his experiences with others.

We shall miss his playfulness, his kindness and his warm and friendly smile.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Eric on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at the Parish Hall of the Lihue United Church, 4340 Nawiliwili Rd, Lihue. Welcome and Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with remembrances and reflections at 11 a.m. The event will finish at 2 p.m. A private inurnment will be held later.

Betty Sibuma Corpuz

December 11, 1943 — May 29, 2025

Betty Sibuma Corpuz, 81, of Lihue, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in her hometown of Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Philippines. She was born there on Dec. 11, 1943.

Betty dedicated more than 25 years of service as a Kitchen Helper at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, where she was known for her hard work, warm smile, and kind heart.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Corpuz Sr.

She is survived by her children Lerma (Domi) Laguit, Abraham (Rowena) Sibuma, Jonathan Corpuz, Joanne Corpuz, Joanie Joy (AJ) Morita, 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Betty’s family remembers her as a kind, generous, and resilient woman whose unwavering support, deep love for God, and strong Catholic faith were a source of strength for both herself and those around her. Her gentle spirit and loving presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Funeral services were held in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Philippines where she was laid to rest at Forest Lake Memorial Park on June 17, 2025.
