Esperanza A. Juan

Esperanza A. Juan passed away on May 21, 2021, at the age of 90, in Lihu‘e. She was born on Feb. 14, 1931, in the Philippines. She was a laundry attendant.

Esperanza was preceded in death by her husband Bernardo Juan.

Esperanza is survived by her daughters Nora Corpuz (Samuel) of Puhi, Nida Barroga (Raymundo) of Lihu‘e, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, brother Toribio Abad (Lydia) of Honolulu, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Service will be held at Garden Island Mortuary on June 19, 2021. A walk-through visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Celebration of Life to follow. Casual attire and flowers welcomed.

Silas Aqui

Silas Aqui passed away on Feb. 15, 2021, in Anahola. He was a fisherman, farmer, police officer, security officer, car salesman and an EMT.

Silas was preceded in death by his father Andrew Aqui, mother Naomi Kauo, brother Arcadio Aqui, sister Naomi Wampler, brother-in-law Daniel Davila, sons-in-law Nelson Makanani and Wayne Watanabe.

Silas is survived by wife Martha Aqui, sons Joe (Rita) Aqui of College Place, Washington, Gerald (Wanda) Aqui of Kalaheo, Glenn (Linda) Aqui of Puhi, Charlie Aqui of Kapa’a, Reginald (Phil) Aqui of San Francisco, California, Marc (Dow) Aqui of New York, New York, daughters Kathleen Watanabe of Kapa’a, Jan Makanani of Hilo, brother Joseph (Bonnie) Yunson of California, sister Sally Davila of Kansas City, Missouri, 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of life will be held in June in Anahola.

John Noblett

John Noblett passed away on May 18, 2021, at the age of 71, in Kalaheo. He was born on Jan. 23, 1950, in Los Angeles, California. He was a restaurant server.

John is survived by his parents John and Bernice Noblett, brothers Stephen Noblett, Richard Noblett, Robert Noblett, all of California, sisters Joan Bagwell, Jane Trigg, Margaret Orth, all of California and numerous cousins.

The family is planning a Memorial of Life in California.

Lloyd James Nakao

Lloyd James Nakao, 75, of Honolulu, passed away on April 19, 2021 at Straub Clinic & Hospital. Lloyd was born in Lihu‘e, and retired as Senior Vice President for Hawaii National Bank.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Chang Nakao of Honolulu, sons Darren (Sandra) Nakao of Honolulu, Neil (Kimberly) Nakao of Honolulu, daughters Jodi Wanstead of Honolulu, Randi-Evelyn (Todd) Yoshikawa of Honolulu, Jaime (Kealii) Nakao of Honolulu and 11 grandchildren. Lloyd is also survived by his mother Violet Nakao of Kapa‘a, sisters Sandra Nakao Riley of Oregon and Donna Nakao Green of Kapa‘a.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. Memorial Service to follow at 3 p.m.

Brenda Honda

Brenda Honda passed away on May 30, 2021, at the age of 75, in Kalaheo. She was born on March 5, 1946, in Waimea, and was an educator.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father Noboru “Nogi” Muraoka, sisters Lucile Horita and Priscilla Nitta.

Brenda is survived by her daughter Shari (Justin) Orian of Chandler of Arizona, fur baby Ziggy, mother Mikiko “Judy” Muraoka of Kalaheo, brothers Calvin (Jane) Muraoka of Hanapepe, Leighton (Lisa) Muraoka of ‘Ele‘ele, sister Sheila (Gerry) Tamura of Hilo, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

No service will be held at the request of Brenda. Visitors are welcome to pay their respects at the family home until June 18, 2021.
