Older Americans nominations open now

LIHU‘E — Mayor Derek Kawakami and the county Agency on Elderly Affairs invites the public to submit nominations for the 2021 Outstanding Older Americans Recognition.

“Every May, we pay tribute to older adults 65 years and older who have made exceptional contributions to their community through service and/or special projects,” said Kealoha Takahashi, AEA executive.

This year’s theme, “Communities of Strength,” recognizes that older adults have built resilience and strength through their experienced successes, failures, joys and difficulties.

“Their stories and contributions help to support and inspire others,” said Takahashi. “We will celebrate the strength of older adults, and especially the power of connection and engagement when building strong communities.”

Nomination forms are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the AEA offices in the Lihu‘e Civic Center Pi‘ikoi Building, Suite 330. Interested individuals must call the AEA at 241-4470 to access the building.

Forms are also available online at kauaiadrc.org.

The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, March 12, by close of business.

Anyone needing an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability should call 241-4470 as soon as possible. Requests made as early as possible will allow adequate time to fulfill requests. Upon request, this notice is available in alternate formats such as large print, Braille or electronic copy.
