KOLOA — Brianne & Co. owner Brianne Light said she saw the space in 2018.
“When I first came in here, I kept thinking, ‘What a perfect spot for a jewelry store,’” Light said. “A year later, the space became available, and today, we’re opening ‘Brianne & Co.’”
Brianne & Co. is a totally new approach to jewelry making and silversmithing done by Light in a small workspace set up at the back of the quaint cozy boutique that sits at the base of the stairs on the Old Koloa Town boardwalk. According to her new website, “Brianne & Co. Jewelry is hand-made, woman-owned, locally sourced, and made on Kaua‘i.”
“We’re re-branding with a new website and a new location,” said Light who has been doing jewelry work for the past several years. “Eventually, everything will move to Koloa.”
Her current shop hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to view the selection of work involving sea glass, shells, stones, pearls, and gold and silver designs. One of the highlights includes a selection of tiny pieces that make good additions to young jewelry collections.
The elements are given the Light touch and transformed into earrings, bracelets, rings, or made-to-order pieces.
Other work can be viewed on the “brianneandco.com” website where a lot of her traffic has taken place during the past year when the COVID-19 pandemic closed the door to visitor and local traffic.
Light said her love of working with intricate work started when her aunt got out an old table where she could play with beads.
“From beads to this,” Light said. “I learned wire wrapping at the Divine Planet, and when I turned 15, Divine Planet hired me. I went to Albuquerque, New Mexico to learn silversmithing, and everything just exploded.”
