Playing for Kapono and Duke Pavao

LIHUE — Kapono and Duke Pavao of Lihue were born with a rare blood disorder, Hemophilia A, said Sherri Sanchez Holcomb of the Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club.

They are the children of Kaipo and Sara Pavao.

Hemophilia prevents the blood from clotting properly, and places people at risk for life-threatening bleeding as well as spontaneous bleeding in joints and muscles.

“These two brave boys have to make daily treatment of infusions and shots a normal part of their lives,” Holcomb said. “We have the privilege of honoring these two brothers — Kapono and Duke Pavao — when we host our first (hopefully, annual) Children’s Miracle Network Golf Tournament, (Saturday) Aug. 10 at the Ocean Course, Hokuala.”

The Children’s Miracle Network hospitals raise funds and awareness for 170 member hospitals that provide 32 million treatments each year to children across the U.S. and Canada.

Donations and contributions stay local to fund critical treatments and healthcare services.

Registration is being taken for the CMN Golf Tournament at $140 per player. Registration is at 7 a.m. and a shotgun start is at 8 a.m.

Tournament sponsorships are available in the tournament where players will vye for prizes that include rounds of golf, restaurant certificates, activities, massages and more, including hotel says at Newport Beach, Anaheim, San Diego, San Ramon, Hilo, Waikiki, Waikoloa and Kauai.

Following golf play, an awards luncheon will follow at the course clubhouse.

A special hole-in-one contest on the Ocean Course 14th hole has a 2019 Toyota Tacoma pickup as the prize.

“All proceeds will directly benefit the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children,” Holcomb said. “Being that this facility is located on Oahu and is the only one of its kind in the state, it cares for our children from across the island chain. Our goal is to not only raise funds, but to raise awarness. We ask your kokua so kids like Kapono and Duke can wake up healthy and happy, that families like the Pavao family can receive the guidance and support they need.”
