During the week of Sept. 7-13, Hawaii Island police arrested 13 drivers for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: South Hilo, six; Puna, four; Kona, two; and South Kohala, one.
So far this year, there have been 655 DUI arrests compared to 782 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16.2%.
There have been 535 major accidents so far this year compared to 677 during the same period last year, a decrease of 21%.
To date, there have been 13 official traffic fatalities compared to 14 during the same time period last year, a decrease of 7.1%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
