During the week of May 13-19, Hawaii Island police arrested 22 motorists for DUI. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One of the drivers was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: South Hilo, 11; Kona, six; and Puna, five.
So far this year, there have been 443 DUI arrests compared to 445 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.45 percent.
There have been 358 major accidents so far this year compared to 514 during the same period last year, a decrease of 30.4 percent.
To date, there have been seven official traffic fatalities, compared to 10 fatalities for the same time last year, a decrease of 30 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
