Police investigating fire near Kona Target loading dock

KAILUA-KONA — Police and fire officials are investigating a truck trailer fire early Wednesday morning near the Kona Target’s loading dock area.

The Hawaii Fire Department said no injuries were reported, and police said the total amount of damages hadn’t yet been determined.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 1:50 a.m., where they found a 40-foot container on a trailer with the rear door entry area on fire next to Target’s loading zone entry door.

Firefighters used turrets to keep the blaze from spreading into Target.

The container reportedly held mixed merchandise, including propane and helium gas cylinders which were detonating.

The fire was reported extinguished by about 4:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Surveillance footage shows a person in the area 16 minutes before the fire started.

Anyone who might have information about the fire should call the police nonemergency number at 935-3311 or contact Detective Dominic Uyetake at 326-4646, ext. 228, or email to dominic.uyetake@hawaiicounty.gov. Those who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
