Police seek suspect in alleged armed confrontation

Police are seeking a 45-year-old man they described as armed and dangerous who is alleged to have fired a shot from a pistol during a dispute Thursday with a neighbor in Ainaloa subdivision.

Shawn Lee Galigo is wanted for questioning regarding the dispute, as well as for two outstanding warrants.

Police say that shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, Puna patrol officers responded to a reported neighbor dispute involving gunshots on Maile Way in the Ainaloa subdivision. Officers learned that Galigo and a male neighbor had been involved in a verbal dispute in front of Galigo’s residence, when Galigo reportedly brandished a pistol and fired it.

There were no reported injuries.

A search of Galigo’s home and the surrounding area proved unsuccessful. Police think he left the area on foot prior to police arrival.

Out of an abundance of caution, several residents on Maile Way were evacuated until police were able to render the area safe.

On Thursday night, shortly before 11 p.m., detectives served a warrant on Galigo’s home and recovered a rifle and ammunition.

Police caution the public not to approach Galigo and to immediately contact police.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information on Galigo’s whereabouts is asked to call the police department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
