Police say preliminary findings of an autopsy conducted today on the body of a 4-year-old girl who died following an incident in her Puna home indicate the injury appears consistent with an accidental stab wound.
The medical examiner’s preliminary findings indicate however has deferred ruling on the manner of death pending additional analysis.
Detectives from the Hilo Juvenile Aid Section continue to investigate, police said.
An autopsy was conducted this morning (November 29) on the body of the 4-year-old female who died following an incident at her home in Puna.
A 14-year-old questioned following the incident was released into the custody of Child Welfare Services.
According to police, the girl suffered a knife wound to the neck while two juvenile boys were cooking breakfast at around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The children’s parents were at work when the incident occurred.
When emergency crews responded to the home, a neighbor was performing CPR on the girl.
The girl was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
