Princeville Makai to hosts Princeville Patriot Golf Day

PRINCEVILLE — Princeville Makai Golf Club’s General Manager Doug Suttor decided to admit his enthusiasm for the third annual Princeville Patriot Golf Day which will take place at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at Makai’s Golf Course.

This is the first official event Makai is hosting since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Suttor felt a tournament like this is what the golf community, reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic, is needed.

Suttor is entering this tournament with a lofty goal: to raise $5,000 more than they did during the 2019 tournament.

The charity event aims to raise a total of $20,000 for the Folds of Honor Foundation, an organization that claims to have 89% of every dollar raised going to a scholarship program and has awarded 24,500 educational scholarships since the start of the organization with 4,500 educational scholarships awarded in 2019 alone.

If Princeville raises a total of $10,000, it will be recognized as a “top performer” for Folds of Honor charity for the third-consecutive year in a row.

“This is during a time when our island, state, country and the entire world continues to yearn to feel and experience good acts and efforts, which are still taking place every passing day,” Sutter said.

Suttor’s enthusiasm has resonated with several members of the Princeville Makai Golf Course as they have an estimated 80 participants registered for the event.

Suttor’s company continues to make adaptations in the COVID-19 economy with their course offering a variety of activities they didn’t offer previously.

In order to make a tournament COVID-19 safe, they are sending golfers in foursomes in 15-minute intervals.

By doing this, it will ensure they limit the possibility of groups of gathering in the same place throughout the course of the tournament.

Their last opening tee time will be 1:45 p.m., sending groups out by tee time to start as opposed to the normal shotgun start to make sure the contestants are safe.

Several of the sponsors for this event include Steve & Janine Hunt Family Foundation, Unlimited Construction Services INC, Tom Bryan Construction, Callaway Golf, Kelii Equipment Rental, SG Builders, The Cliffs at Princeville, Sheraton Kapa’a, Budweiser, Paradise Beverage, Travis Mathew, Ecolab, Starwood Capital Group and East West Partners.

“The entire team at Princeville Makai Golf Club is very motivated to put on an extremely polished but COVID responsible charity event,” Suttor said.
