LIHU‘E — A wastewater spill at the Lihu‘e Wastewater Treatment Plant spewed around 200 gallons of secondary, treated wastewater into the environment that eventually made its way into Kalapaki Bay.
The spill occurred around 12:45 p.m. Friday as a result of heavy rains.
County officials estimate that approximately 200 gallons of secondary treated wastewater spilled and flowed into a drainage channel that runs through the neighboring Hokuala Ocean Golf Course and into Kalapaki Bay.
Golf course officials were notified, and signs have been posted at the intersection of Nawiliwili Stream and Kalapaki Bay.
County officials are asking the public to avoid this area.
State Department of Health officials have been notified about the spill.
