Resort, groups team up for beach cleanup Saturday

LIHUE — As part of the 34th annual International Coastal Cleanup Day, Kauai Beach Resort is partnering with the Surfrider Foundation Kauai and the B-Rad Foundation to clean up Nukoli‘i Beach from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The beach cleanup will begin with an “Aloha &Be Well” yoga class from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. conducted by Alexandria B. Cordero, founder and CEO of Samsati Yoga.

Community volunteers, employees and guests will record each item collected on data cards to get a better understanding of the effects marine trash is having on the local ocean environment, wildlife and ecosystem. This data-collection process helps identify ways to eliminate ocean debris in the future.

Kauai Beach Resort will provide box lunches for volunteers.

Volunteers interested in participating in the cleanup can contact Barbara Wiedner at 635-2593 or bwiednerrealtor@aol.com.

The Surfrider Foundation will provide gloves, debris bags and water. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes with good treads, hats, long pants or shorts, and bring reusable water bottles and reef-safe sunscreen.
