With a theme of Malama kekahi i kekahi, or take care of one another, the Kaua‘i Adult Day Health Center celebrated May Day on Thursday, May 18, 2023, with all of the kupuna at KADH and staff participating.
Imogene Richards was announced as the KADH May Day Queen. Bernard Goo was selected as KADH May Day Queen.
“Imogene has a golden voice, and during her teen years even performed with Elvis Presley, whom she says was ‘a very nice person,’” said Kaulana Mossman, the Kaua‘i Adult Day Health program director. “Imogene is a natural entertainer in all genres of music, and fellow attendees at the center absolutely love her singing.”
Goo, an Army veteran, enjoys talking story with fellow attendees and playing instruments during the center’s song sessions. Mossman said his calm and endearing demeanor makes everyone feel welcome at the center.
“With an emphasis on the spirit of aloha that exists within all of us, we continue to exercise kindness, generosity and appreciation, always focusing on the goodness in others,” Mossman said.
“Kaua‘i is unique, and comprised of multi-generational ‘ohana. It is our kuleana to perpetuate the heartfelt legacy of aloha that has lived on through generations — malama kekahi i kekahi — take care of one another. After all, we are one ‘ohana,” she said.
