Seedlings available in ‘Ele‘ele Saturday

‘ELE‘ELE — ‘Ele‘ele Elementary School student Carmila Udarbe and her mentors, Roy Miyashiro and Basilio “Bunga” Fuertes, will be distributing seedlings, Saturday starting at 8 a.m. near the entrance to Gather Federal Credit Union in the ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center.

Available while supplies last, the seedling varieties for the Saturday distribution include scallion green onions, the University of Hawai‘i Kobe Strain green onions, the University of Hawai‘i Nitta purple eggplant, the UH green eggplants, The Black Beauty round eggplants, medium-sized bittermelon, the Okinawa long bittermelon, the Gordon Harada long Filipino beans, Hawaiian hot chili pepper, sweet long dark green peppers, round squash, kale, zucchini, UH Komohana grape tomatoes, wing beans, and possibly Japanese cucumber.

“As a special, the Sadamu Okada variety of sweet solo papaya will be available as a token to remember this Waimea Young Farmer,” Fuertes said.

Proceeds from the seed distribution is used to ensure future distributions with the surplus being added to Udarbe’s college fund.
