Senior softballers rise over COVID

LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Senior Softball league battled not only the weather but the COVID-19 bug, too, Saturday when two of the league’s seven-game schedule were not played due to one of the participating teams’ players being stricken by the virus.

Last week, the weather allowed just one game to be completed before rain called off play due to unsafe conditions. In the game that was completed, the Keonimana Gents downed DaKruzers, 16-4, before subsequent games were called off.

Saturday, the Keonimana Gents were 18-11 victors over the Aloha Kia Lihu‘e A’s, and on Saturday will face off against the Kaua‘i Sons at Puhi Park.

Barteks was a 23-6 winner over the Hanama‘ulu Hillsiders, and on Saturday will be playing a double-header at ‘Ele‘ele Park. In the first contest, at 10:15 a.m., Barteks will face Kawaihau before meeting Kuku’s Aces in a make-up of last week’s rained-out encounter.

Kuku’s Aces, a 16-4 victim of the East Kaua‘i Legends, will also play a double-header, first against the Bushwackas at ‘Ele‘ele, followed by the game against Barteks.

Other Saturday games included the Kaua‘i Sons being victimized, 24-4 by the Rookies at the Kaumakani field. Da Kruzers were a 7-2 winner over West Kaua‘i, and in the day’s final game, the EK Legends soared past Kuku’s Aces 16-4.
