HANAPEPE — Saturday, county officials said there was a wastewater spill on Puolo Road near Kaumuali‘i Highway. The spill was the result of a pipe clamp failing, causing wastewater to leak from the sewer system.
The county Department of Public Works Wastewater Management Division is working with the contractor and temporarily operating the wastewater-collection system to address the failed pipe clamp and to clean up and disinfect the area. Officials estimate that approximately 2,000 gallons of raw wastewater spilled.
