Stalled boat towed to safety, Monday

KEALIA — A motorized boat, the “Babalu,” reported engine problems, Monday, off the Kealia Point Lookout.

The Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to the report that came in at approximately 10:30 a.m., and assessed the situation from the lookout point, monitoring the stricken “Babalu” in the event of a grounding.

The KFB Kapa‘a station also readied its watercraft for launch off the Waika‘ea Canal Boat Launch Ramp.

At the same time, the US Coast Guard launched its Motorized Life Boat 45762 out of Station Kaua‘i that successfully established a towline to the stricken boat, and towed it to safety.
