Suicide prevention training set

KEKAHA — Join the conversation about suicide prevention and get Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training-certified during a two-day workshop set for March 19 and 20 at St. Theresa School in Kekaha.

The workshop will equip participants to respond knowledgeably and competently to persons at risk of suicide.

Participants learn and practice skills in identifying and responding to people at immediate risk of suicide. Just as CPR skills make physical first aid possible, training in suicide intervention develops the skills used in suicide first aid, course organizers said.

This is a highly interactive workshop that will give participants the training they need in order to be a care‐giving resource within the community.

Lunch for the training is sponsored by Catholic Charities Hawai‘i, and participants are invited to bring their own snacks and refreshments for breaks. Also sponsoring the event are Kaua‘i Mental Health Advocates, EMS and Injury Prevention System Branch and Prevent Suicide Kaua‘i.

Attendees must be present for both full days to receive certification. Plan to be on time, as late-comers may be turned away. Pre-registration is required. To register: kauai_asist_march20_community.eventbrite.com
