Two dozen additional inmates test positive at HCCC

Another two dozen inmates at the Hawaii Community Correctional Facility in Hilo have tested positive for COVID-19 amid an ongoing outbreak that has sickened more than 200.

Friday’s tally bringing the total number of inmates that have tested positive during the outbreak, which began in late May, to 228.

Of those, 103 cases are still active and 125 have recovered.

Twenty employees also have tested positive, 16 of whom have recovered. Four staff cases remain active.

Two staff members remain hospitalized, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
