Upper Puna home destroyed by fire

Fire destroyed a 600-square-foot single-story home in Eden Roc subdivision in lower Puna early Friday morning.

According to a Hawaii Fire Department statement, 11 units responded to the 6:23 a.m. alarm, with the first unit on scene 22 minutes later.

Arriving firefighters found the structure fully involved in flames with the roof collapsed. The fire had started to spread to a nearby 480-square-foot shed.

The fire was reported under control at 6:50 a.m. and extinguished at 8:24 a.m.

No one was home and no injuries were reported.

Damage was estimated at $105,000 and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
