LIHUE — Veterans Day is quickly approaching, said Kauai Veterans Council Commander retired Gen. (USAF) Mary Kay Hertog.
Lexi Jones of the Rice Street Business Association said the Kauai Veterans Celebration will take place Saturday from 3 p.m. with the Veterans Program at Hale Lihue.
“This year, we’re especially taking time to honor our veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan wars,” Jones said. “Their courage, sacrifice and continued service to our communities deserve heartfelt recognition. We hope to provide space for connection, remembrance and support through both ceremony and community gathering.”
From 4 p.m. until closing, the celebration continues with the Resource Night Market on Kress Street.
“There will be music, food vendors, local organizations offering resources for veterans and families, veteran-owned businesses, and families and opportunities to learn more about how we can all support those who have served,” Jones said.
Veterans Day is a time to honor and recognize the sacrifices made by those who have served in the military, Hertog said.
On Tuesday, the Kauai Veterans Council will host a ceremony to pay tribute to those men and women, as well as their families.
The ceremony is open to everyone. All are welcome to join the group at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery on the 11th day of the 11th month, starting at the 11th hour.
Hertog said if anyone or organization would like to donate lei to decorate the grave markers, the lei must be brought to the Kauai Veteran Center on Monday between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or to the cemetery on Veterans Day, by 9 a.m.
