Voyagers improve to 2-0 in KIF volleyball

PUHI — The Island School Voyagers outplayed Kaua‘i High School on both fronts on Tuesday to improve to 2-0 in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation boys volleyball standings.

Playing at Wilcox Gymnasium on the Island School campus, the junior varsity Voyagers needed three sets to get past the Red Raiders (25-19, 12-25 and 15-7).

The varsity Voyagers, taking a 3-1 win over Waimea High School last week, continued its roll by outplaying Kaua‘i in three straight sets (25-16, 25-11 and 25-15).

Scores from the KIF boys volleyball games between Kapa‘a and Waimea were not available.

Following close starts, the Voyagers broke away from a 10-10 stalemate in the first set by capitalizing on Red Raider miscues peppered with an Island School ace by Bodhi Jones for a 16-11 go-ahead. Voyager Orion Magaoay served up a pair of aces in the final four points that sealed the 25-16 Island School win.

The Voyagers continued to do damage from the service block in the second set, when Mark Fitzgerald served up 10 straight points to give the Voyagers a 22-7 lead in the second set.

Kaua‘i responded with a whack from Xaedan Valdez and the Raiders capitalized on two Voyager hitting errors before Island School put the game away on a Michael Fitzgerald bang.

The next KIF boys volleyball matches will take place on March 26, when Waimea visits Kaua‘i High School and Island School travels to Bernice Hundley Gym to face the Warriors. The JV matches start at 5:30 p.m. at both locations.
