Voyagers take Saturday golf

WAILUA — Island School golfer Lucas Summerhays finished with the best round of the day, 6-over 78, to lead the Voyagers golf team to a first finish on Saturday, April 15, 2023, during Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation play at Wailua Golf Course.

The Voyagers boys golf team, including Summerhays, Christopher Jobe, Garrett Hadley, Quisi Braun and Kameron Lee, tallied 352 strokes to take the team competition over Kaua‘i, Waimea and Kapa‘a high schools.

Kaua‘i High School boys, led by Cody Nii’s low round of 90, finished chasing 42 strokes after the Voyagers, the team including Nii, Sterling McLoughlin, JV Sibuma, Kalvin Cadiz and Braden Bartholomew totalling 394 strokes.

Waimea High School, led by Kanoa Martin’s 95, and included Koy Tsukayama, Jakob Nakata and Zhairyn Navarro, finished at 404, followed by Kapa‘a boys, including Jayvin Raquel, Cheyne Carillo, Koen Anama and Lincoln Miner-Ho, tallied 454 strokes.

Kaua‘i High School’s Heily Kikuchi, tying with Amalia Abigania, had the best rounds of the day at 93, a stroke better than teammate Haley Arakaki, who finished at 94.

Those three Red Raider ladies were joined by Leilani Redondo, who finished with a 97 to take the girls team play with a 280 total.

KIF golf continues Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the Wailua Golf Course, when the first group tees off starting at noon. On April 28 and 29, KIF golfers participate in the 36-hole qualifying rounds at the Wailua Golf Course that will be the site of the David S. Ishii Foundation Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state play.

The girls tee off on May 9 and 10, followed by the boys taking the course on May 11 and 12.
