The Waimea Street Front Decoration Contest sets the tone for the annual Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade presented by the West Kauai Business &Professional Association, Saturday night before hundreds of appreciative fans who braved the windy (but not rainy) weather.
First place for best architecture belonged to Nana’s House that glistened back of Hofgaard Park that was already lit up from the earlier tree-lighting ceremony. Second-place honors went to Waimea Auto Glass Shop, with The West Inn third and the Hee Building getting honorable mention.
The Shrimp Station earned top honors for best children’s theme judging, with the Shell gas station getting second place, and Super Duper getting third place. Jojo’s Shave Ice, getting a lot of visitors waiting for the parade, received honorable mention.
Gather Federal Credit Union garnered votes for the best daytime display, followed by Aunty Lilikoi products and Creations by Michelle, and M&H Services getting honorable mention.
Ultimate Nails, in the midst of the collection of floats following the parade, topped the best theme category, followed by the historic Waimea Theater that hosted a lobby-full of partying spectators. A big lighted “W” fronted the Waimea fire station and earned third place. Da Booze Shop earned honorable mention.
The biggest and brightest judging belonged to the Miyake Building, followed by Friendship Do’s Ranch and Ishihara Market, with Big Save earning honorable mention.
The Sea Shell Diamond Gallery, located on the left side of the theater, earned top awards in the most beautiful judging, followed by the Yamase Family Complex and the Waimea Public Library that hosted a book sale and activity stations, including decorate a cookie, making slime, and oshibana tables before the parade started. Waimea Plantation Cottages earned honorable mention.
Wrangler’s Steakhouse, whose Marissa Faye was riding horseback for the first time in the parade, topped the most brilliant judging, appropriate for the meet-and-greet of Miss Hawaii Teen USA 2020, Ki‘ilani Arruda following the parade.
The Mane Event, located on float row, ended second, followed by Hofgaard Park, where paraders converged for pick-me-up food, with First Hawaiian Bank earning honorable mention.
Most creative honors went to Kikiaola Land Company, followed by Umi’s Store and Kauai Island Stylez, with Subway getting an honorable mention.
The Waimea Baptist Church was judged the most traditional, followed by Spice of Life Collectables and Masaki Market Building, with Robinson Insurance getting honorable mention.
The Carillio residence topped the residential judging, followed by the Magaoay home, the starting point of the Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade. The Bayot residence earned third, and the Agena residence received honorable mention.
