Warehouse fire in Puhi causes $500,000 in damage

PUHI — A warehouse fire caused an estimated $500,000 in damage on early Saturday morning.

The Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) said firefighters were dispatched to Puhi Industrial Park on Haleukana Street in Puhi after receiving a report of a structure fire at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

“When responders arrived on scene they found a two-story warehouse on fire,” the KFD said in a report.

“Crews immediately knocked down the fire on the first floor of the building and proceeded to address the second floor, which had partially collapsed. After extinguishing the fire on the second floor, firefighters ensured there was no fire extension in other areas of the structure.”

Lihu‘e Fire Station personnel were first to arrive on scene, followed by Koloa Fire Station and Kalaheo Fire Station personnel along with an on-duty battalion chief and Fire Prevention Bureau members.
