Watching whales for scholarships

Blue Dolphin Charters, represented by Owner Terry Donnelly and General Manager Shaye Donnelly-Clarke, presented the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation $600 toward Zonta Club of Kaua‘i scholarships.

The contribution represented proceeds from a scholarship fundraising effort by Blue Dolphin, where whale watching customers were offered deep discounts on March 4, with 10 percent of the profits benefiting the Zonta Foundation Scholarship Fund.

“What a great time out on the water watching whales, while the whales are here in Hawaiian waters,” said Donnelly-Clarke. “And, at the same time, supporting our community and the Zonta foundation for scholarships.”

The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation awards scholarships each year in the amount of $1,000 or more to young women on Kaua‘i seeking to pursue a higher education. Academic scholarships are awarded to each young woman accepted by the Zonta Scholarship Committee.

Qualifications for applicants include being a high school graduate on the island and having plans to further their education. Scholarships are also being awarded to women returning to the work force and are interested in continuing their education at Kaua‘i Community College.

People interested in supporting the scholarship fund, or students seeking for information on eligibility, can visit www.zonta-kauai.org.
