Past time to open the cane road

Concerning the article on the new tax to improve Kauai transportation, covered in TGI, Sunday, Jan. 6, where it said, “This funding will be critical to funding our road infrastructure and traffic congestion needs on our island,” former Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. said in December 2017, when the County Council approved the surcharge.”

I’ve read that an additional lane for Kuhio Highway in Kapaa from the cane back road to the Wailua traffic lights has been in the county budget three times, but never accomplished. Yet, the congestion continues to increase.

The way for this council to prove its effectiveness is to have the Kuhio Highway finally become permanent four lanes for the whole expanse that now keeps changing the direction of the middle lane by cones.

It is past time to get that done for the good of all who live and vacation here.
