Letter for Tuesday, March 7, 2023

Thank you for your support

Congratulations, council member Ross Kagawa, on your appointment back onto the Kaua‘i County Council. I look forward to you helping our community and your ongoing service to Kaua‘i.

As I reflect on these past couple weeks, I am humbled by the outpouring of support from our community.

Without being asked to, many community members emailed and testified in favor of me being appointed as a replacement for the vacant council seat. The support was palpable, and I am thankful and inspired. The experience reaffirms my steadfast commitment to serving Kaua‘i.

I will continue to engage and serve through my involvement, advocacy and community work. I truly believe that we need more women, more younger generation and more diversity represented in all levels of government and I’m committed to the responsibility of making that a reality and being part of the solution.

We are living through an extreme housing crisis and a crippling drug problem, and the impacts are evident. These are extremely trying times and I am committed to engaging and addressing these issues however I can.

The kind and thoughtful things that council members shared about me in the Feb. 22 special meeting, about wanting to work with me and their encouragement for me to continue to seek election, makes me want to work even harder.

It’s all of our responsibility to work for a better Kaua‘i, and when community shows up, it shapes our future for the better.

I’m looking forward to running again for a seat on the Kaua‘i County Council in 2024 and continuing to push for a better future for our people and home.
