Jason ‘Gooba’ Kunane Aquino

Jason “Gooba” Kunane Aquino, of Kekaha, passed away on Feb. 6, 2020, at the age of 46. Born on June 6, 1973, in Waimea, he was a crew leader with Syngenta.

He is preceded in death by his father Alejandro “Sonny” Aquino; son Moses Aquino.

He is survived by his mom Karin Aquino, Kekaha; wife Jerowina Aquino; daughters, Ashley Agor, Washington, Jaslin Aquino, Shania Aquino, Naomi Vidinha and Pfeiffer Aquino, Kekaha, Martina Aquino, Montana; sons, Wyatt Aquino and Waylon Aquino, Kekaha; brother James (Sandra) Aquino, San Diego; sister Stacy (Joey) Aquino Bagain, Kekaha; grandson Hunter Aquino-Ortiz (deceased).

A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Kings Chapel, Eleele from 9 a.m. to noon.

Wallace F. Moura

Wallace F. Moura, 96, of Eleele, passed away on Feb. 16, 2020. He was born in Eleele on March 12, 1923, and was the factory superintendent of McBryde Sugar.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Frances Moura Jr.; brother Clarence Moura; sister Angela Tavares.

He is survived by his wife Violet Reis Moura; daughter Joan Moura; sons, Gary (Lyssa) and Robert (Paige) Moura; grandchildren, Robin (Kahi) Rita, Ryan (Whitney) Moura, Aryn, Ethan, Shayla, Evan Moura; three-great grandchildren; sister Frances Freitas; brother Albert (Dorothy) Moura; cousin Frances Gouveia Hanlin; brother-in-laws, Thomas, Alfred and Harry Reis; sister-in-law Janet Martin Reis; nieces, Bernie Soto and Shirley (Benny) Laguatan; nephews John (Nina) Medeiros and Tommy Tavares; among numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins and his beloved dog Teddy.

His celebration of life is Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Sacred Heart Church in Eleele, with visitation at 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. There will be a burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Arthur ‘Arte’ E. Palama

Arthur “Arte” E. Palama of Kalaheo and Big Island of Hawaii, passed away on Feb. 13, 2020, at home. He was a self employed general contractor – A. Palama Contracting

He is preceded in death by his parents David K. and Marie Rapozo Palama; sister Claire Pereirra; brothers, Roland, Thomas and Clarence Palama.

He is survived by wife Lena K. Chang Palama; son Roger Waialae (Taira Kajiwara) Palama; daughter Alice “Nalani” (Randall Soares) Palama Soares; grandchildren, Liana K. (Jake Youn) Palama, Wailana (Kyle Blackstad) Blackstad, Kamuela (Gina Taniguchi) Palama, Leina (Keali`I Punley) Palama, Alanna Frenandez, Lokela Hookano (Kira Lanning) Palama, Kaeo (Kadejah Langundino) Palama, Kekai Hookano Palama, Kahinu Li Palama Soares, Kawahine Palama, Kahia`ai Palama, great-grandchildren Kamea Palama Alquiza, Kirra Blackstad, Kahanu Blackstad, Wehilani Blackstad, Liliua K. Palama Youn, Kana`I Taniguchi Palama; brothers, David (Moana) Palama, Stephen (Kathy) Palama.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kalaheo, with visitation at 8 a.m. and Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.

Olsen Louis Ebinger

Olsen Louis Ebinger of Ballston Spa, New York, passed away Jan. 3, 2020, at Saratoga Springs Hospital, New York, at the age of 68. Born in Lihue, June 15, 1951, and raised in Anahola.

He was preceded in death by his father George Ebinger; his mother Marie Garcia Ebinger; his brothers, Gilbert and Hitcliff “Bully” Ebinger.

He is survived by his partner Lori Schultz; his daughters, Melissa Ebinger-Timm (Matt) of Hanamaulu, Sonya Ebinger-Phelps (Stephen) of Murrieta California; son Barry Ebinger also of Murrieta, California; grandchildren, Tori, Tracy, Noah, Brenna Taylor and Dylan; great-granddaughter Emersyn. He was also survived by his sister Flo Munkacsi, of Wailua Homesteads; brothers, Hughes (Shirley) of Anahola and Keith (Diane) of Lihue; numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering to reminisce, to share memories and to reflect on good times will be March 14, 2020, at Lydgate Park, big Pavilion starting at 10 a.m.

Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady New York, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Anthony Nuivo

Anthony Nuivo, 86, of California, formerly of Kauai, passed away on Feb. 12, 2020. He was born in Lihue, on Feb. 15, 1933, and retired from Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

Preceded in death by his wife Ruby “Terry” Nuivo; parents Benito and Eugenia Nuivo; brothers, Francisco Nuivo, Marcario Nuivo, Paustino Nuivo; sister Natividad Nuivo Arato.

Anthony is survived by his daughter Mary (Hykeem) Jordan of California; son Anthony Lee “Tony” Nuivo of Lihue; two granddaughters, Victoria Fung of California and Scarlett Nuivo of Lihue; sister Soledad Nuivo Cui of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at Kauai Memorial Gardens with graveside services on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at 10 a.m.

Alta Vista Cremation and Funeral Service of Suisun City, California and Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Chito Isonaga

Chito Isonaga passed away at Regency at Puakea, on Feb. 5, 2020, at the age of 104. She was born on Oct. 28, 1915. She was a U.S. Army Veteran.

She was preceded in death by parents Tokuichi and Kazuyo Isonaga; brothers, Kokichi Isonaga, Herbert Isonaga; sisters, Shizuo Isonaga, Anne Isonaga.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Private services were held. No koden.

Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Theresa S. Yoshioka

Theresa S. Yoshioka, 89, of Lihue, passed away at Garden Isle Health Care on Feb. 27, 2020. She was born in Lihue on March 30, 1930, and retired as a reservationist with Coco Palms Hotel.

Preceded in death by her husband Jitsuo Yoshioka; daughter Sharon Yoshioka.

Theresa is survived by her son Darin “Ipo” (Sandra) Yoshioka,; daughter Gwen (Calvin) Tsukayama; six grandchildren, Sheldon Tsukayama, Blaine (Misty) Tsukayama, Micah Yoshioka, Wiley Yoshioka, Hunter Yoshioka, Kobi Yoshioka; 2 great-grandsons, Ty Tsukayama, Koy Tsukayama; sisters, Agusta Schumacher, Roberta Consibog; brother George Saladaga; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private burial services were held at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Ernesto G. Coloma Sr.

Ernesto G. Coloma Sr., 66, of Lihue, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Jan. 31, 2020. He was born in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on April 17, 1953, and worked as an electronics technician for the FAA.,

He was preceded in death by his parents Jorge and Benita Coloma; son Ernest Coloma Jr.; brothers Loreto and Eugenio Coloma.

Ernesto Sr. is survived by his wife Pat Coloma; daughters, Emme Lynn Taylor, Erin Coloma; sister Josie Pasion; grandchildren, Ayzia Sierra Aceret-Coloma, Gerald Ernest Aceret-Coloma, Aiyrah McKenzye Aceret-Coloma; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Ernesto’s life will be held on March 14, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m., services at 10 a.m. and burial at Kauai Memorial Gardens to follow.

Tomiko (Watanabe) Ching

Tomiko (Watanabe) Ching, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Feb 23, 2020.

She was born on March 31, 1933, in Gunma-ken, Tomioka, Japan, to Otojiro Watanabe and Tsuru Matsui. After marrying Lester S.F. Ching, they moved to Oahu and lived in Kaimuki for many years, where she retired in retail sales. They later moved to Huleia, Kauai where she lived until her last two years of life. She was then cared for by her daughter in Idaho full-time until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lester (whom she missed dearly); her granddaughter Tiara Danielson.

She is survived by her 4 children, Vernon Ching (Roberta), E. Danielson (Steve), Holly San Diego (Scott), Irvin Ching (Vanessa); 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in various callings. She loved serving others and helping those in need. Sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafting, and cooking Japanese and local foods were her specialties. A very spiritual woman, her faith and testimony in God and His Son Jesus Christ never wavered. She continued to pray every day until her last days. She loved playing the ukulele, and was part of the Kauai Senior ukulele organization for many years. She was an amazing Mom, Gramma, Great-Gramma, Aunty, and friend. She will be missed.

There will be a viewing on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Garden Island Mortuary located at 2-3780 B Kaumualii Highway from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a short service from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Burial services will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery where she will be buried with Dad. We thank all those who have helped support our family in this time of need. Mahalo, love and gratitude from the bottom of our hearts!
