Garrett Naumu
Garrett Naumu passed away on April 15, 2021, at the age of 37, in Lihu‘e.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1983.
He was preceded in death by father Dwayne Naumu.
He is survived by son Brenden Naumu of Lihu‘e, daughters Aleajah Naumu of Lihu‘e and Taytra Naumu of Lihu‘e, mother Ruth Naumu, sisters Tiffany Naumu of Lihu‘e, Trisha Naumu of Lihu‘e and Krystal Naumu of Honolulu, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at a later date.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
John Paul Hanson
John Paul Hanson passed away at his home in Anahola on April 9, 2021. He was 84 years old.
He is survived by son John Ka‘ahanui (Lisa) Brown from his first wife Virginia Hanson, stepdaughter Kaiulani (Bronson) Lovell from his late wife Diane McLane-Hanson, grandchildren Jacqueline (Luke) Nevill, Juliana Brown, Lauren (Josiah) Lyons, Jonathan Brown, Lyndsay Brown, Makoa Lovell and Nai‘a Lovell, and great-grandchildren Eliana Nevill, Harper Nevill, Kinsley Nevill and Colton Lyons.
He was born in Hanalei, and had four brothers and one sister: Lono, Keawe, Walter, Haumea and Georgiana.
He started working at age 5, shining shoes and selling newspapers on the streets of Honolulu during the war, and from this experience he developed a great compassion and willingness to help others. He proudly served his country as a Marine. He was a “car man” and worked as president of Wholesale Motors in Honolulu before starting his own business, JH Leasing &Sales in Anahola.
He was ahead of his time, and designed his home to be built in phases, as a family grew. He spent his days picking opihi and limu, and his evenings building his house himself. He had to rebuild after Hurricane ‘Iniki, and was recognized by President Bill Clinton for helping the relief efforts in the aftermath of the hurricane.
He took cooking classes and enjoyed fine dining. He played the saxophone and had a great love for jazz. He was a family man, and dedicated his later years to traveling and to caring for his wife and her parents.
A private funeral service will be held in Kapa‘a.
Maurice
Alfred Ruiz
Maurice Alfred Ruiz passed away on March 19, 2021, at the age of 72, in Suisun, California.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1948, in Waimea, and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a surgical services technician, vehicle operator/dispatcher and air cargo specialist.
He was preceded in death by parents Alfred and Aniscacia Ruiz, brother Renfred Ruiz and sister Ginger Lee Ruiz.
He is survived by wife Mi Yong Kim Ruiz of California, daughter Mihe (Walter) Muraoka of Honolulu, grandchildren Rosanne Muraoka of Las Vegas and Sean Muraoka of Honolulu, brother Fredric (Luisa) Ruiz of Kekaha, sister Dianna “Dee” Ruiz (Llewellyn “Lew) Young of Kekaha, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is at Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, May 1, from 9 to 11 a.m., with the service at 11:30 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.
Due to COVID-19, social distancing and mask are required.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Quinsiann Wai‘ale‘ale Laborte
Quinsiann Wai‘ale‘ale Laborte passed away on May 7, 2020, in Kalaheo, at the age of 45.
She was born on June 5, 1974. She was an employee with Hawaiian Airlines.
She was preceded in death by father Richard J. Quinsaat.
She is survived by husband Fred D. Laborte, sons Trystan “Kalei” Quinsaat of Honolulu, Bronson “Ola” Laborte of Kaua‘i and Donovan K. Laborte of Kaua‘i, daughter Zymri P. Laborte of Kaua‘i, mother Sandra P. Quinsaat of Kaua‘i, brother RJ Quinsaat of Kaua‘i, sister Kasandra I. Quinsaat of Kaua‘i, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is at the Kukui‘ula Small Boat Harbor Harbor pavilion on Saturday, May 8, with a pass-thru visit with the family at 11:30 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face masks and social distancing are required.
Antonio ‘Tony’ Machacon Duyanen
Antonio “Tony” Machacon Duyanen of Las Vegas passed away on April 13, 2021, at the age of 75. He was born on Feb. 9, 1946, in Cili, Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines. He retired from the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort and Spa.
He was preceded in death by parents Melchor and Argonia Duyanen, in-laws Leonardo and Paulina Tomboc, brother Raymundo Duyanen and granddaughter Anjannette Duyanen.
He is survived by wife Elvira Duyanen, sons Christopher (Cresilda) Duyanen of Las Vegas and Roldan (Cassity) of Lihu‘e, daughters Marivie Duyanen and Gina (Michael) McDonald Duyanen both of Las Vegas, brother Ernie Duyanen of Las Vegas, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services are Thursday, May 6, at David Funeral Homes and Memorial Park in Las Vegas, wth viewing from 4 to 6 p.m. and services to follow.
