Guillermo A. Marcos

Guillermo A. Marcos, 79, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Nov. 29, 2021 at Wilcox Medical Center. He was born in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Feb. 10, 1942. He retired in the Philippines as a provincial auditor of Ilocos Norte after 40 years of service, and later became a sales clerk at Walmart on Kaua‘i.

He was preceded in death by parents Filomeno and Ernestina Marcos, sister Demetria Marcos and parents-in-law Elpidio and Isabel Coloma.

He is survived by wife Julita Marcos, children Glenn (Blanca) Marcos, Gilda (Angel Jr.) Valera and Grace Anne (Ruel) Sahagun, sister Clarita Marcos (Emiliano) Remigio, grandchildren Brandon Jude Marcos, Aeden Valera, Gabruella Sahagun, Ally Sophia Sahagun and Madison Grace Sahagun, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is Sunday, Dec. 12, at The House of Prayer inside the Island Comfort building on the corner of Rice and Ewalu streets in Lihu‘e, with visitation from 3:30 p.m. and services at 4:30 p.m.

Face masks and social distancing are required.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Ann Misako Fontes

Ann Misako Fontes, 78, of Pahala, Hawai‘i Island, died Nov. 22, 2021, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 3, 1943 in Kalaheo, she was retired from the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo Extension Services/U.E.

She was preceded in death by husband Franklin “Mac” Fontes and son Derek Fontes.

She is survived by granddaughter Cherish M. (Jesse) Kailiawa of Pahala, great-grandson Ke‘ao Kailiawa of Pahala, great-granddaughter Anelalani Kailiawa-Quinn of Pahala, brothers Owen (Gail) Yamaguchi of St. Louis, Mo., Howard (Joan) Yamaguchi and Dennis (Madeline) Yamaguchi of Kaua‘i, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Due to COVID-19, private services will be held at a later date.

Dodo Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Frederic A. Wyle, M.D

Frederic A. Wyle, M.D., passed away peacefully at his home in Ha‘ena on Oct. 7, 2021, at age 81.

He is survived by wife Valerie Mae, daughter Ariana, sons David and Jordan (Toi Lynn), and grandchildren Kaya and Haden Wilson Wyle.

He was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. on Oct. 20, 1939. He attended the University of Pennsylvania as an undergraduate, and earned his degree in medicine in 1964. After completing his speciality training in medicine and infectious diseases, he served in the Army.

Beginning in 1971, he spent his career in academic medicine, teaching, seeing patients, administering the academic program and doing research. He served as chief of medicine at the Long Veterans Administration Medical center, as well as professor of clinical medicine at the University of California at Irvine.

He retired in 1997 and moved full time to Kaua‘i. Here he devoted himself to playing golf twice weekly at Wailua. Additionally, he was a skilled and creative woodworker. His greatest joy was to be surrounded by his family and to be a part of his grandchildren’s life.

Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary assisted the family, as did the wonderful people at Kaua‘i Hospice and caring and supportive island neighbors.
