Michelle ‘Michie’ Matsuko Perlas
Michelle “Michie” Matsuko Perlas passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, surrounded by family, at the age of 51. Born on Jan. 12, 1971, in Lihu‘e, she grew up in Puhi. She worked for state Child Welfare Services as a social worker for 26 years. She helped and served so many clients and children. She enjoyed baking and most of all making Stampin Up cards.
She was preceded in death by parents Damaso and Aurellia “Nina” Perlas.
She is survived by companion Sean Nakamura, sister Alicia Perlas (Tyrus C.) Miyashiro, brother Michael Perlas, nephews Jordan (Mae) Perlas and Tyrus K. Miyashiro, niece Kaytlyn Perlas, grand-nephew Micah Perlas, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life is Thursday, Dec. 15, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary. Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by services at 10:45 a.m.
Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Matsuko ‘Mats’ Uyeda
Matsuko “Mats” Uyeda, 95, went home to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ and her husband of 67 years Itsuo on Nov. 21, 2022. She was born on Kaua‘i on May 8, 1927, and worked with the County of Kaua‘i as the manager of the Kauai Senior Center.
She was preceded in passing by husband Itsuo Uyeda and brothers Francis, Wally and Herbert Ida.
She is survived by sons Mark Uyeda and Eric (Lisa) Uyeda, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary Yoshimura
Mary Yoshimura, 91, of Wailua Houselots, passed away on Oct. 15, 2022. She was born on Dec. 13, 1930, and raised in Kilauea. She was a retired custodian for Kapa‘a Elementary and Middle School.
She is survived by husband of 70 years Masashi Yoshimura, daughters Penny (Dennis) Purviance and Patty Yoshimura, grandsons Kaili (Sara) Purviance and Kanoa Purviance, great-grandchildren Benjamin, Emilia and Chandler Mary Watts and sister Charlene Sarita. A celebration of life is Saturday, Dec. 3, at St. Sylvester Church in Kilauea, with visitation at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m.
Catherine Ann Adams
Catherine Ann Adams, 67, passed away on Nov. 18, 2022 in Lihu‘e. She was born in Decatur, Illinois, on July 3, 1955. She graduated from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, and received her master’s degree in nursing administration at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa before she worked as a registered nurse at Straub Medical Center and Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
She served her community in many ways. She was elected Palolo Lions Club vice president from 1997 to 1998, to the Kaua‘i Community College Nursing Advisory Council from 1999 to 2004, and appointed to Hawai‘i State Center for Nursing Advisory Board from 2004 to 2006. She was elected community representative for King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School Citizens Advisory Council from 2005 to 2007, appointed to Civil Service Commission for the County of Kaua‘i in 2009, and appointed to the Kaua‘i Police Commission from 2016 to 2222.
She spent her professional career of at the Straub Clinic and Hospital in Honolulu from 1979 to 1999, and at Wilcox Memorial Hospital from 1999 to 2022.
She was preceded in passing by husband Peter Adams, her mother Helen Georges, and siblings Judy Hull, Peter Georges and Emily Georges.
She is survived by father Marion E. Georges, siblings Chris Georges, Paula Casey, Joe Georges, Tim Georges, John Georges and Pat Georges, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Kaua‘i at Wilcox Medical Center conference room on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. Services will be held in Arizona and will be announced at a later date. Donations can be made in her name to the Wilcox Hospital Foundation in lieu of flowers. Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
