Charles ‘Charlie’ Takeo Moriguchi

Charles “Charlie” Takeo Moriguchi, 92, of Kekaha, passed away on Dec. 7, 2022. He was born on July 30, 1930, in Honolulu. He was the owner for Charlie’s Service & Repair and a Marine veteran.

He was preceded in death by parents Harry and Fusako (Watanabe) Moriguchi, brothers Harris Moriguchi, Ronald Moriguchi, and brother-in-law Barney Mateo.

He is survived by wife Betty Satsuki (Murakami) Moriguchi, sons Duane (Denise) Moriguchi of ‘Ele‘ele, Guy (Shirley) Moriguchi of Lihu‘e, Eric (Janell) Moriguchi of Kekaha, grandchildren Ashlie Moriguchi, Kyra (Evan Kuribayashi), Mallory (Kane) Zalopany, Justin (Mariah Navor) Moriguchi, Hali‘a Moriguchi, Bryce Yoshida, Grant Yoshida, great-grandchildren Emma and Kolt Kuribayashi, Alaka‘i, Kamela and Kala‘i Zalopany and Maddux Moriguchi, brother Bert (Lynn) Moriguchi of Kailua, O‘ahu, sister Jane (Moriguchi) Mateo of ‘Ele‘ele, sisters-in-law Laraine Moriguchi of Lihu‘e and Evelyn Moriguchi of San Francisco.

A service is on Friday, Dec. 23, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. with services to follow. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. A private burial will be at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Floro Yoro Dinong

Floro Yoro Dinong, 73, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Dec. 1, 2022. He was born in the Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on Dec. 22, 1948. He retired as a guava fruit picker at Kilauea Agronomics.

He was preceded in death by parents Jose Quejado Dinong Sr., Alejandra (Primitiva) Yoro Dinong, brothers Virgilio, Warlito and Fredelito Dinong and sister Nenita Dinong.

Floro is survived by his wife Sylvia T. Dinong, brothers Jose (Marites) Dinong Jr., Juanito Dinong, Romeo Dinong, sisters Zenaida (Mario) Valmoja, Helen Dinong, Amelia (Lambert) Hidalgo, Josephine Dinong, numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kapaia with visitation from 9 a.m. and Mass beginning at 10 a.m.

Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Richard Takeshi Nakata

Richard Takeshi Nakata passed away on Nov. 7, 2022. He was born on April 15, 1932. He is the former president and operator of Nishi Catering Service.

He was preceded in death by daughter Denise Nakata.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kay Toshie Nakata, sons Steven (Suesue) and Kevin (Aiko) Nakata, and grandson Brian Nakata.

A service is Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Nu‘uanu Mortuary on O‘ahu. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. and services at 6 p.m. Burial will take place at Hawai‘i State Veterans Cemetery at Kaneohe on O‘ahu on Thursday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m.

Norie Shimatsu

Norie Shimatsu, 96, of Kekaha, passed away on Dec. 17, 2022, in Waimea. He was born on Jan. 16, 1926, in Kekaha. He was an irrigation supervisor for Kekaha Sugar Co. and a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by son Ainsworth “Shige” Shimatsu, parents Tokuji and Sano Shimatsu, brothers Yoshinari and Haruko Shimatsu, Yoshiharu and Stella Shimatsu, Hisae and Tomoe Shimatsu, Fumiyuki and Mildred Shimatsu, Setsumi and Miriam Shimatsu and Nobuo Shimatsu, sisters Shizue Shimatsu and Mikie and Haru Watanabe and daughter-in-law Veronica Shimatsu.

He is survived by wife Annie Shimatsu of Kekaha, sons Derek Shimatsu of Mililani, O‘ahu and David Shimatsu of Kekaha, daughter Norine (Irving “Sarge”) Soto of ‘Ele‘ele, sister-in-law Blanche Watanabe, daughter-in-law Deborah “Mamo” Shimatsu of Kekaha, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a later date.

Irene Chikahiro

Irene Chikahiro, 87, of Kekaha, passed away on Dec. 16, 2022, in Waimea. She was born on Aug. 18, 1935, in Waimea.

She was preceded in death by parents Masao and Misayo Chikahiro, brother Glenn Chikahiro and brother-in-law Sueki Nakamura.

She is survived by sisters Nancy (Wally) Hironaka, Sally Nakamura, Susan (Jerry) Morimoto, Joy (Allen) Kunimura, numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services were held. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).
