Mika Judy G. Ashley-Hollinger
Mika Judy G. Ashley-Hollinger grew her wings on May 27, 2025, in the sanctuary of her home in Kalihiwai Valley surrounded by family. She was born in Melbourne, Florida, on July 28, 1947.
She was a landscape designer at Kupono Landscapes and had a genuine love for all plants, trees, and gardens. She was an advocate for endemic and indigenous Hawaiian plants. A deep compassion and kindness for all animals and birds. She could be counted on to rescue, rehabilitate, and release them.
She is survived by her husband Stuart, sons Jerry (Donna), Shane (Nicole), Kahua, six granddaughters, two great-granddaughters and one great-grandson.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 3062 Kalihiwai Valley Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The family requests casual attire and no flowers.
John J. Arzadon
John J. Arzadon, of Kapaa, passed away on Jan. 14, 2025, at the age of 96, at Castle Hospital on Oahu. He served in the Korean War and founded Arzadon Engineering & Construction.
He was preceded in death by his parents Braulio and Eusebia Valera Arzadon, sister Lucia Arzadon (Valentine), Rosalina Arzadon, Julie Arzadon and brother Tony Arzadon.
He is survived by his stepmother Easter Arzadon, sisters Pacita Arzadon (Jimenez), Karen Arzadon, brothers David Arzadon, Stuart Arzadon, sons Brian Arzadon, Craig Arzadon, daughters Myra Arzadon, April Arzadon, ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Lihue Christian Church from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial services will be held privately at a later date.
Rebecca ‘Ahmoi’ Leialoha Alapai Kawamura
Rebecca “Ahmoi” Leialoha Alapai Kawamura, of Kapaa, was born on Jan. 23, 1952, in Lihue, and passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on June 23, 2025, at the age of 73.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Sr. and Rebecca Alapai, brothers Joseph (Duda) Alapai Jr., Owen Esona and sister Martha “MuiLang” Alapai.
Rebecca is survived by her sons Gary “Kazuo” (Laurie) Kawamura of Oregon, Glenn “Kela” (Kanani) Kawamura of Anahola, daughter Gwendolyn Kehaulani Kawamura of Kapaa, sister Kealoha (Dyke Nishimori) Alapai of Lihue, brothers Eddie (Lynette) Alapai of Oregon, Duane (Darcy Mabe) Alapai of Iowa, hanai daughters Crystal Battulayan (Alapai) of Lihue, Kiku (Kevin) Donnelly of Molokai, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Lihue Neighborhood Center on Aug. 9, 2025, at 1 p.m.
