Mary Kamalu Paikai Medeiros

Mary Kamalu Paikai Medeiros passed away on May 26, 2019, on Kauai.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1929, in Honolulu, and was a tour guide driver.

She was preceded in death by father and mother Ebenezer and Mabel Paikai, husband Gilbert Medeiros, son Joseph Medeiros, grandson Kalama Nobriga, brothers Ebenezer “Biggie” Paikai, James Paikai and Joe Paikai, and sisters May Ho, Miriam Makaena and Shirley Hyman.

She is survived by sons Gilbert (Clarita) Medeiros, Antone “Max” (Renee) Medeiros and Hoburn Medeiros, daughters Elizabeth “Lee” (Jeff) Albao, Gail (Greg) Norbriga and Mary (John) Adviento, stepbrother George Mahelona, stepsister Mamo Mahelona, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 13, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Mass will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Burial will be held at a later date.

The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Leonard Freitas

Leonard Freitas, 67, of Koloa, passed away in his home on June 19, 2019. He was born in Lihue on March 6, 1952, to Helen and Theodore Freitas.

He is preceded in death by his wife Judy Freitas, his parents, his brothers Dennis and Damien, and two grandchildren, Kalena Freitas and Gerry Rayray Jr.

He is survived by children Kitty Freitas of Lihue, Tracy (Mike Huffman) Freitas of Missouri, Travis (Christina) Freitas of California, Brandon and Bryson Freitas of Arizona, grandchildren Ashley Rayray, Jasmine Freitas, Savannah McNaughton, Jayden Celebrado and Noelani Panes, great-grandchildren Brylon Ash, Avaleyne Sutphin and Lillianne Sutphin, and sister Arlene (George) Whitten of Koloa.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Grove Farm, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, working on his bikes and cars, and cruising around the island.

Everyone who knew him knew him as compassionate, fun-loving, and always ready with a joke to make others laugh. He was always willing to give anyone his time, and was never one to shy away from a good conversation.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 13, at St. Raphael Church in Koloa. Visitation with the family is from 9 to 10 a.m., with the service starting at 10 a.m.

Burial will be at St. Raphael Cemetery with a lunch reception to follow held in the church hall.

Corazon Arizanga Morales

Corazon Arizanga Morales, 74, of Kapaa, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on July 4, 2019. She was born in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, on Oct. 7, 1944.

She is survived by children Arnold (Rebeka) Morales, Georgia (Jose) Ancheta, Dennis (Jasmine) Morales, Grace (Ivan Aribal) Morales, Jeanne (Ronald) Tadiarca and Hazel (Darin) Kashiwabara, father of her children Tante Morales, 24 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, at Kapaa Missionary Church, with visitation from 10 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
