Derek Darryl Morita

Derek Darryl Morita passed away on July 21, 2021, at the age of 67, in Waimea. He was born on May 20, 1954 in Honolulu. He was a teacher and businessman.

He was preceded in death by son Dustin Morita, father Edward Morita and brother Ronson Morita.

He is survived by his daughters Hi‘ilani Shizuko (Geoff Badua) Morita of O‘ahu and U‘ilani Reiko Morita of O‘ahu, grandchildren Kaeden Ramirez, Kaecen Ramirez and Zaeliah Nunes, mother Shizuko Morita, sister Kelijene (Derek) Tengan of O‘ahu, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are Saturday, Oct. 2, at Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. and celebration of life to follow. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required.

Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Edwin Ahana

Edwin Ahana was born in Lihu‘e, fourth son of K.M. and Flora Ahana, on Feb. 7, 1933. He joined the Air Force soon after graduating from Kaua‘i High School in 1951. He retired with the rank of master sergeant from the Air Force after 26 years in 1977, and worked as a civilian employee for another 27 years at the Air Force Civilian Personnel Office, after which he worked at other occupations until he passed quietly on July 5, 2021.

He was preceded in death by older brothers Kenneth, Victor and Alvin.

He is survived by his family in Okinawa, son Richie (Masako), grandson Zen, granddaughters Ayumi and Kozue and step-daughter Megumi. In Hawai‘i he is survived by older sister Ellen and brother Mervin.

He will be buried with full military honors at Punchbowl at a private service for family only.
