Stanley Santos Cadawas Sr.
Stanley Santos Cadawas Sr. passed away on Sept. 27, 2020 at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 83.
Born on July 20, 1937 on Kaua‘i, he was a retired crash fire fireman at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands, and was also in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by parents Filimon and Matsuku Cadawas, brother Benjamin Cadauas, and sister Aurellia “Nina” Perlas.
He is survived by sons Stanley Cadawas Jr. and Alan (Lori) Cadawas, daughters Joann Langtad, Jeanne (Robert) Raposas and Kimberly (Rodney) Cheeseman, brother Phillip (Marian) Cadawas, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be Friday, Oct. 23, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary, with visitation at 9 a.m. and services at 10 a.m.
There will be limited seating for social distancing, and face coverings are required.

Nobuhiro Matsuyoshi
Nobuhiro Matsuyoshi, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away on Sept. 21, 2020. He was born in Hiroshima, Japan, on Sept. 5, 1946.
He worked as a cement finisher for various companies including Shioi Construction, Hawaiian Dredging, Grace Pacific, Lihu‘e Plantation, Rego Construction and Aloha Diner.
He was preceded in death by parents Chogoro and Kimie Matsuyoshi and brother Kimiharu Matsuyoshi.
He is survived by wife Cathay Matsuyoshi, daughters Maycia (Guy Ibos) Matsuyoshi and Ki‘ilani Matsuyoshi, son Noa Nobuhiro (Shar Thronas) Matsuyoshi, sister Irene Hiromi (Dr. Michael) Johnston, and granddaughter Taylann Misora Maluhia Matsuyoshi-Ibos.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission Due to COVID precautions, actual services will be limited to immediate family. However, friends and extended family may visit and pay their respects prior to the service beginning at 9 a.m. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Rosamilia ‘Rose’ Dichoso Melchor
Rosamilia “Rose” Dichoso Melchor of Koloa peacefully passed away at home on Oct. 3, 2020. She was 89.
She was preceded in death by husband Artemio and daughter Gayle.
She is survived by children Merlyn (Jeffrey) Craddock, Lillian (Robert) Davies, Artemio (Audrey) Melchor Jr., Diane (Mark) Beeksma and Suzie (Michael) Schad, grandchildren Nathan (Kelly) Rasco, Kellan (Jessica) Craddock, David (Rebecca) Schad, Samuel (Robyn) Schad, Michaela Schad, Joshua, Bradley, Stuart, Andrew, Alyssa Beeksma, and great-granddaughters Sophia and Aurora Schad.
She was born on March 25, 1931 in Solsona, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.
In 1952, she journeyed from the Philippines to Kaua‘i along with her mother and sister, where their father worked for Koloa Sugar Plantation. There she met her husband Artemio, and “it was love at first sight.” Besides being the most remarkable mom, she had many occupations, including being a waitress, hotel receptionist, tour guide, building homes and farming with her husband. All who knew her were struck by her beauty, grace, kindness and hospitality. Above all she instilled within the family a love for Jesus Christ who was her savior and Lord.
There will be a private family celebration to honor her life.

Alfred Calangan Lardizabal
Alfred Calangan Lardizabal passed away on Sept. 11, 2020, at the age of 82, in Honolulu. He was born on May 15, 1938, on O‘ahu. Kaua‘i and O‘ahu were his homes. He was most recently employed with the United Public Workers union as a government affairs officer.
He was preceded in death by father Mauricio Lardizabal Sr., mother Annie Macose and brother Glenn Lardizabal.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Heide Hensen Lardizabal, son Perry (Dee) Lardizabal, daughter Sonya (Jess) Lardizabal Quel, siblings Maurice (Florence) Lardizabal Jr., Carmen (Robert) Mercado, Charlene (Thomas) Arita, Maureen (Zachary) Octavio and Scott Lardizabal, grandchildren Ashley (Kevin) Cremer, Mariah Pai and Kaileen Lardizabal, great-grandchildren Kaisen Yanos and Braden and Kaylee Ramos, best friend Cynthia Apana, sister-in-law Rosel (David) Holthaus, extended ‘ohana Kailee Loa Sugihara, Mikelle Quel, Tina (Burelle), Duke Alamillo, Roy Tabar, Michelle, Hannah and Makana McDermott, Essa Emelio, and numerous other family members and lifelong friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Oahu from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Central Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nu‘uanu. A celebration on Kaua‘i will be announced at a later date.
Ernest Leslie Ventura
Ernest Leslie Ventura of Kalaheo, born on April 8, 1934, passed away peacefully on Oct. 12, 2020, at Garden Isle Health Care & Rehabilitation. The family would like to thank the staff for the love and care they provided.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp for 14 years and served in the Korean War. After an honorable discharge he made his way home to Kaua‘i, where he dedicated his time to his passion for woodworking, music and the love of nature. On any given day, you could find him in “Grandpa’s Workshop,” hunting, gardening, fishing or playing the organ.
His love for his entire family was evident throughout his life. He will forever live in their hearts and be remembered through his legacy. He will forever be cherished and remembered by his family friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Ernest and Mary Ventura, brother Franklin Ventura, sisters Barbara Pereira and Betty Correa, and grandson Ernest (Ernie) Les Ventura.
He is survived by his beloved wife Carol Ventura, son Stephen (Diana) Ventura of Kalaheo, daughters Kathi )Joseph) Yap (Joseph) of Arizona, Laurie (Bill) Wallace of Kalaheo and Christie (Nimilote) Moli of Utah, grandchildren Brandon (Natasha) Ancheta, Azaria (Anthony) Ortiz), Victoria Ventura, Kawika (Marites) Ventura Smith, Kaneala (Calli) Ventura Smith, Kayleena Yap, Tashi (Levi) Canales, Seth Wallace, Kalisitiane Moli, Kahelelani Moli and Siosiana Moli, 13 great-grandchildren, brother August (Bernie) Ventura of Kalaheo, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, when all family members will be able to travel to Hawai‘i.

Brigida Asuncion Racelo
Brigida Asuncion Racelo of Koloa passed away on Oct. 3, 2020, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 92.
Born on Oct. 18, 1927, in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a retired nurse at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by parents Vivencio and Julita Asuncion, husband Conrado Racelo, and brother Pablo Asuncion.
She is survived by daughters Sandra (Wayne) Anbe and Wanda (Jon) Miyajima, sons Conrad (Wailani) Racelo and Clyde (Jennifer) Racelo, brother Benjamin (Inocencia) Asuncion, sisters Amelia Barber, Amerita (Phillip) Speasmaker, grandchildren Terry Miyajima, Alisa Racelo, Tania Racelo, Shawnelle Briones, Clyve Racelo and Callie Racelo, great-grandchildren Lily Briones, Jack Racelo and Logan Briones, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Friends may visit family on Friday, Oct. 30, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary chapel in Koloa, where visitation is at 9:30 a.m. and service at 10 a.m. The family suggests aloha attire. There will be limited seating and social distancing. Burial will follow at St. Raphael Cemetery in Koloa.
